Welcome to 2022! January always brings a sense of hope and happiness. Even though it is typically one of the coldest months of the year, most people have been fortunate enough recently to spend time with their families over the holidays or take some time off work to refresh and recharge. However, that also means we have probably overeaten, indulged in one too many pieces of pie, or eaten one or twenty-four too many cookies. If you are looking for options other than fried food or just looking to make some healthier choices, a southern-style fried seafood restaurant might not be the first place that comes to mind. However, we have some excellent options if you avoid heavier foods but not avoid flavor.

There are several options for you to consider at Bubba’s fish shack. Some are leaner than others. Anything that is grilled or blackened is an alternative to fried options. You may also consider some of our salads or a few other lighter options we have available to you. Let’s talk about all of them.

First up, let’s take a look at our FRESH GARDEN PICKIN’S. The Bubba’ Lil House Salad features lettuce mix, cucumber, tomato, red onion, and croutons. Our Bubba’s Trash Salad is a lil’ bit of this, a lil’ bit of that. Grilled chicken, hickory-smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, croutons, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, lettuce mix. The Big Old Salad showcases a lettuce mix, tomato, cucumber, red onion, and croutons with the option of grilled chicken, grouper, or Mahi. Our Caesar Salad starts with lots of romaine tossed in Caesar dressing and topped with shredded parmesan cheese and croutons with the option of grilled chicken, grouper, or Mahi.

We have mentioned the Mahi a few times now for a good reason. Mahi is a low-calorie fish with plenty of health benefits and contains a high amount of protein, vitamins, and minerals. We wrote an entire blog on Mahi last month. Check that out here: insert link for December blog post here. You can order the Mahi as a sandwich and swap the fries for a side salad. We also offer a Mahi Platter that comes with fries, coleslaw, and our homemade hushpuppies.

The following options might surprise you because pork has a reputation for being unhealthy. However, it is a good source of certain nutrients and high-quality protein. Consumed in moderation, it can make an excellent addition to a healthy diet. Yes, pork is still considered red meat despite becoming a lighter color when cooked and contrary to the commercial from several years ago. There are a couple of options on our menu for you to consider. We offer a Pulled Pork Sandwich and Bubba’s House Pulled Pork Platter. We also are proud to serve Bubba’s Baby Back Ribs Platter, or you could go crazy and order the Bubba-Que Combo Platter! These are not small meals, so if you are looking for portion control, we recommend you ask for a to-go box before starting.

These are just a few of the delicious non-fried options we serve at Bubba’s Fish Shack. If you are looking to avoid fried food or just make some new choices, a southern-style fried seafood restaurant might not be the first place that comes to mind. However, we have some excellent options for avoiding heavier foods but not avoiding flavor. At Bubba’s Fish Shack we want you to love your food. We do! So whether you are looking for a fantastic fried fish basket or a lighter option, we have something for everyone.
