Summer has come to a close, and fall is on its way, but it is still warm in Surfside Beach. While we think clam chowder is good year-round, we get asked frequently, “what are some great fall options”? Let’s explore that question as the topic for this month’s blog.

Since the best grouper fishing is right around the corner, let’s start with our fantastic options! We serve grouper as a sandwich giving you a choice of grilled, fried, or blackened with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. You can order a Grouper Fingers Basket served with fries or a Fried Grouper Finger Platter served with fries, slaw, and hushpuppies. A fish with a very mild flavor, grouper is light, sweet-tasting, and typically breaks off in large chunky flakes. Grouper easily absorbs marinades and dressings and can be easily breaded and fried.

Another mild yet slightly sweet fish with a delicate and fine texture with low levels of oiliness and moisture is flounder. Flounder is very similar to halibut. Flounder is a highly versatile fish. The first place you will find it on our menu is Bubba-wiches. Surrounded by lettuce, tomato, red onion, fried green tomato, and toasted sourdough bread, this delicious sandwich features our lightly breaded, mouthwatering, fried flounder. You can also find it in several spots under the Big Dawg Platters section. You can order the Fried flounder as its own platter, accompanied by fries, cole slaw, and our homemade hushpuppies. You can also pick it as one of the options for the First Mate’s Platter or Captain’s Platter. We are confident you will be happy with this selection.

Fried, grilled, or blackened, the Mahi will make you say YUM! Similar to the fried flounder, you can find this fish on both the Bubba-wiches and Big Dawg Platters sections of the menu, but also as an option for a salad topper. Mahi is an abundant ocean fish known for surface-dwelling off-shore in temperate tropical and subtropical waters. Usually sold as a skinless fillet, Mahi has a sweet, mildly pronounced flavor making it one of the most popular in the world. The mean is lean and relatively firm in texture but not steak-like. It is also good for your body. Mahi is an excellent source of healthy, lean proteins and is rich in Niacin, Vitamin B12, Phosphorus, and Selenium.

To wrap things up, we recommend you try the catfish. Our guests love our catfish, and for a good reason! It is light, tastes great, and goes with just about every item on our menu! There are several health benefits to catfish as well. (You can read more about catfish here: https://bubbasfishshack.com/2020/08/25/august-is-national-catfish-month/) You can find catfish on our Bubba-Rific Baskets and Bubba’s Big Dawg Platters.

These are just some of our recommendations. At Bubba’s Fish Shack we have a menu full of delicious items that will please your palate. Everything we do focuses on providing downhome, good ole southern seafood served hot and fresh the way it was meant to be!
